Aakash tablet is the much awaited ultra low cost Android touch screen tablet officially launched in New Delhi on Oct 5, 2011. DataWind, the Canadian company has launched Ubislate7 in India, and the student version is named as the Aakash tablet. Aakash tablet is made especially for the poor and ordinary students. It will definitely end the digital divide between rich and poor.
The compact tablet is built around a 7 inches Resistive touch screen display with 800×480 pixel resolution and its processing power is provided by Arm11 – 366Mhz processor. It has a core graphics accelerator for faster application support and HD video co-processor for a high-quality multimedia experience.
It runs on Android 2.2 Froyo operating system which allows you to access over 150,000 apps via Android market. It comes with 2GB internal storage which can be expandable up to 32GB using microSD memory cards. Aakash tablet is the only Android device to offer DataWind’s UbiSurfer browser. The UbiSurfer browser accelerates web pages by factors of 10x to 30x, allowing for a fast web experience.
Ultra connectivity is enabled by GPRS and WiFi IEEE 802.11 a/b/g and support for optional 3G modems. Integrated two full-sized USB 2.0 ports in the tablet allow you to attach pen-drives, web-cams, external keyboards, dongles and other peripherals. It is loaded with 2100 mAh battery which offers up to 3 hours of battery life.
It comes with Educational software, Productivity software: Office suite, Games and can play HD Quality Videos. It has a preinstalled PDF viewer and Text editor. It supports various document (DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX, XLS, XLSX, ODT, ODP,PDF), video (MPEG2, MPEG4, AVI, FLV) formats, audio (MP3, AAC, AC3, WAV, WMA) and image (PNG, JPG, BMP and GIF).
The accessory options offered with the Aakash tablet include Leather Keyboard Case, Car charger and External antenna. The Leather Keyboard Case allows you to convert the tablet into small laptop.
Aakash tablet, the world’s cheapest tablet is available for only Rs. 2,500 and its commercial version, UbiSlate 7+ for only Rs.2,999. The payment mode for both the tablets is cash on delivery and they will be delivered within seven days.
